X17's 2010 Oscar Predictions!

After watching the Golden Globes this Sunday, X17online has decided to predict the principal nominees for the upcoming 82nd Academy Awards!

The actual nominees will be announced on February 2, 2010.

BEST PICTURE - There will be ten nominees this year, so watch out! You can probably expect Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Precious, Up, Up in the Air and maybe even Nine... but what about box office hits like Star Trek and the MJ doc This Is It? Not to mention indie winners like District 9 or the star-studded drama Brothers.

BEST ACTOR - Jeff Bridges from Crazy Heart feels like the winner here, but George Clooney from Up in the Air and Jeremy Renner from The Hurt Locker will likely get noms. Then there's indie faves Colin Firth for A Single Man and Viggo Mortensen for The Road. Personally, I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt should get a nomination for (500) Days of Summer, but I know he won't!

BEST ACTRESS - It's Meryl Streep in Julie & Julia versus Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side. Oh, and the lovely Carey Mulligan for An Education, but she won't win. Who's your pick - Meryl or Sandra? I think it's Sandra's year!

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - I think it's down to Matt Damon in Invictus (he's never won an acting Oscar) and Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds. Also, a shout out to the great Stanley Tucci who creeped everyone out in The Lovely Bones.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick will cancel each other out, sadly, for Up in the Air, leaving Mo'Nique to win for Precious. Still, I'm hoping for Anna!

BEST DIRECTOR - James Cameron for Avatar, hands down. Also in the running? Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker, Jason Reitman for Up in the Air and Quentin Tarantino - who should win - for Inglourious Basterds. Oh, and maybe they'll give Clint Eastwood a nod for Invictus... he always gets nominated!

But the question on everyone's mind is, will Avatar win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, just like it did at the Golden Globes? Does James Cameron have another Titanic on his hands?

And more importantly, does it deserve to win???

Hmm...

Does Avatar deserve to win Best Picture at the Oscars?

Yes! Not only was it beautiful to look at, it was also the year's best film.
No! It looked pretty, but the story was pretty standard.
It will win, but only because of box office glory.

up in the air!!!!!!!!!oh and i love meryl.

The Hurt Locker should win best picture. But really it's ridiculous to have 10 movies in the race, distorts what best picture really means. And Katherine Bigelow should get best director, hands down!

In terms of best actress, it's definitely Meryl vs. Sandra, but my money is on Meryl. Meryl on a bad day is brilliant. Sandra performance in Blind Side was very good, but not worthy of winning an Oscar. Of course Carey will be nominated, together with Gabe (for a brilliant performance) and Helen Mirren. Abbie Cornish should get a nod, but she won't.

Best supporting will definitely go to Christoph Waltz. He was brilliant as evil Hans Landa.

Best supporting actress will go to Mo'Nique, she was great as the evil mother.

i actually really liked the hurt locker too! so intense.

OMG! Mo'Nique needs to win this one. She was just too much in the movie. The complete opposite of her in real life

is precious any good?

I though Lilo was going to win, that's what she said. My guess never for her. She sucks.

Agreed with 5:13

Hurt Locker was good but not even close to best picture.
Avatar was a great movie and an incredible feat.
I would even accept Precious.

I think "Inglourious Basterds" stands to be the movie that will come from behind and could win for best picture of 2010. Upsets have happened in the past, I really hope Quenton Tarintino wins a few this year, that movie was something.

im going 8;38 its better script it really really really is abetter thought out idea '''than EVEN AVATAR

Colin Firth was absolutely outstanding in A Single Man, it was the best performance by an actor I've seen since Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Avatar was nothing more than great technology used in a film that racked in big money at the box office, and the Academy Awards are or at least should recognize more talent in a film than that. Though I am not saying James Cameron isn't an excellent director, in fact, he should win best director for incorporating new technology and perfecting a script with an impossible new language. Avatar is a film that is a new breed within Hollywood, however the Awards should award the films that inspired change or made a comment about the human condition which I felt Avatar severely lacked.

Avatar, Sandra Bullock and Anna Kendrick!!!!

MERYL STREEP & GEORGE CLOONEY !!!
THEY ARE MY WINNERS !!!

I havent seen Avatar, but everyone told me the story WAS standard. I think Inglorious Basterds deserves either best movie or best director (at least one of both!). I watched it recently, and it blew my mind!

Yes, Inglourious Basterds had some superb actors and it was a terrific movie. I hope the movie produces several Academy Awards.

Everytime i look at Monique all I see now is her unshaven man legs.

I know "Avatar" is a cinamatic 3D blockbuster; but it's not really an acting type film; it fantasy C.G. characters. "Inglourious Basterds" is a true film spectacle with filming talent and great acting, with real people. Should a movie be based on how well it does at the box office? I think not.
Hopefully Hollywood does not dance to new age technology and sticks with real acting ability; vote for the one and only Quenton Tarintino and his movie"Inglourios Basterds".

Carey Mulligan best actress. And nomination actress supporting Emma Thompson.

Posted by: James

Seriously? Sandra Bullock over Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan. How is that in any way justified?

Posted by: proud Sandra Bullock supporter

Hopefully Sandra Bullock!!

sandra should win hands down... if u think its just pitting on a wig an an accent why dont u try... she did the performance displaying enough emotions without wighs makeup or fake nose( the hours, monsters ball)anyone? she rely solely on a potrayal of a real living woman and not fictional.its not easy to do that without being too empowering or annoying so hands down sandra should win

What went wrong on The X Factor today with Britney Spears?

Britney definitely had another meltdown. This is proof she's not ready to step back into the spotlight!
I think Britney may have overreacted to a bad audition, but it will be entertaining to watch later!
I think Simon Cowell planned this all along. Brit probably even rehearsed it!
