MTV's Skins Will Not Be Canceled Despite Loss In Advertisers

The new series Skins has ruffled feathers with both viewers and advertisers, but despite the controversy over its racy content, the network is keeping the show on the air.
MTV has released the following statement:
- "Skins has earned the loyalty of fans across the globe for its thoughtful and honest portrayal of teen life today. An internationally acclaimed scripted drama, the show has been honored with a long list of prestigious awards. MTV stands by the US adaptation of Skins and the vision of its creator Bryan Elsley.”
The following advertisers have already pulled out: Foot Locker, L'Oreal, Shick, Subway, Wrigley, Taco Bell, General Motors and H&R Block.
Skins could reportedly end up costing MTV close to $2 million per episode without big-time sponsors. The premiere episode drew in 3.3 million viewers, while the second episode saw the numbers drop down to 1.6 million.
Do you think the series will last for another season?

No matter how they try to paint it, Skins is a vulgar, trashy show that sensationalizes promiscuous teens. SOME kids may act like the ones on the show, but that doesn't make it right or desirable.
I didn't really like the pilot but the second episode was really good - good enough to keep me watching. I agree it sensationalizes teen life, but I don't think the show is meant to reproduce reality in a literal sense. What I liked about the second episode was that it illustrated the challenges and hardships that is the trademark of teen life. They are exploring sex and drugs, yes, but this is all part of their self-discovery and how they choose to conduct their lives. I think the pilot episode did not hit the mark quite like the second episode did, so I'm curious to see what happens in the third. I think the show does contain truths about teen life - teenagers are pretty smart and no matter how one tries to paint it, Tina, teenagers are exposed to these things all the time, even without a show like Skins. A teenager needs to discover the world, with the guidance and protection of a parent when needed. I'm not sure if the sexual content of Skins is necessary, but sexuality does make up a significant chunk of who we are. Love and sex are not one and the same, but they do overlap in the realm of Intimacy. Sex is not more important than love, but probably just as important! And to the kids in Skins, they are exploring this as they physically pass into adulthood.
F*cking gross....just eye candy for all the pedos.
MTV isn't looking to make money. Their goal is to corrupt as many teens as they can. They need to change their name and stop claiming to be a music channel.
I was skeptical at first to watch Skins because I've already seen the UK version and I didn't know how this version would play out. In the end I actually liked it. Honestly, Skins is just a "different" kind of show, showing things that many people may be uncomfortable with, but it is only TV. I have a hard time thinking that MTV is trying to corrupt teens by pressuring them into doing drugs and having sex. That's reality. Kids get pressured into doing things like that all the time by kids they probably go to school with, not by a television program.
