Courts to Nicole: Plea, Don't Flee!

Hmm...I wonder where the idea for a continuance came from?
Looks like the Summer of Screwed Starlets isn't set to let up anytime soon - we've learned that Nicole Richie won't be given a continuance on her looming court date for her DUI!
The starlet's lawyer had filed to push the diminutive diva's day in court back until early August (this coming just a few weeks after having it pushed back to the current date), but a clerk for the court confirmed that Richie has instead been offered a plea bargain, which she's got 24 hours to accept!
Originally, this caused a stir given Richie's current out-of-the-country status (she's in Canada for Joel's concert), but the clerk made sure to state that she would NOT have to be present for the hearing (scheduled for tomorrow at 8:30 AM), contrary to what other websites are reporting. At tomorrow's hearing, she'll either be sentenced or a trial date will be set. We'll be sure to bring you updates as we get 'em, so stay tuned!

the request for a continuance by the defense and the subsequent plea offer by the DA are common procedure in the criminal process. as with paris, it would be a waste of money and frankly ridiculous to put nicole in jail - but i wouldn't be surprised if she were put before a firing squad for her serious criminal offenses. after all, the prosecutors and judge need an avenue to promote their own best interest and with an uninformed, venomous public, waiting with baited breath, it could happen.
regardless of the outcome, it is really none of our business if nicole goes to jail, has a child, shaves her head or moves out of the country to avoid the rabid paps.

If Nicole gets jail time, it would be smart for her to just stay in Canada and marry Joel there.
Of course, it seems very unfair that Paris had to do such a long time for just a suspended DL violation.
But the justice system sucks in America.

There is no way you can twist the facts so far as to say a mother's drug and alcohol abuse is going to be good for the development of a baby.
