Paris Hilton Charged With Felony Possession Of Cocaine

Paris Hilton is going to be formally charged with felony possession of a controlled substance for the .8 grams of coke cops found in the heiress' purse this weekend.
Paris is claiming that the little baggie of cocaine that fell out of her purse while she was reaching for some lip balm was not hers. But according to the police report, the officer on the scene felt that there was enough evidence to charge the heiress for possession since "the suspected cocaine fell from the purse Hilton was carrying, that the suspect cocaine was found near a broken prescription pill that Hilton admitted was hers, that she admitted that other items inside the purse were hers (including a package of Zig Zag wrappers, which are commonly used to roll and smoke marijuana), and that she was the passenger inside the vehicle, which was stopped after Officer M. Polion smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from it."
Paris has retained the services of Las Vegas power attorney David Chesnoff, who has the task of proving the coke was not Paris' in court.
Calls to Chesnoff's office for comment were not immediately returned.
Sounds like it could be extremely difficult to prove!

Just my opinion, I am not an attorney: Contrary to the "difficult to prove" opinion of the bloghost. An arrest means you are a suspect with enough cause to be detained to proceed with further investigation. But to be "charged" means that the District Attorney's Office believes it has a solid enough case to obtain a CONVICTION. Otherwise they do not proceed. So it now just appears to be a matter of if the DA is going to cave in and accept a lesser plea(does money talk?) or stick to their guns and uphold the law while sending a clear message even to the "bratty elite" that they want to clean up Vegas, and there will be NO FAVORITISM. In the old wild west days, the Sheriff or Judge on rare occasions might cut a little slack provided the perp "get out of Dodge and don't ever come back!". This is going to be interesting to watch. Will she fight it to the end, and hope her attorney "knows the Judge" well enough, or ask for a jury trial and gamble on what her real popularity is in the world of "intelligent adults", or will she cop to a lesser conviction, be forced into rehab. and likely a few 100's of hours of community service. (Imagine her emptying sidewalk litter containers and scrubbing public toilets!) and forever be branded as a "druggie". What's that sound? Could it be the music playing from the old silent movie episodes of the "Perils of Paris".

No, your passport is the document of proof of citizenship. However, many countries will not issue visas or entry permits to convicted felons. Paris, being a high profile person, may likely have her ability to travel abroad severely restricted, IF she is convicted. But even if pleaded down to a misdemeanor drug offense. Many countries still will not allow you entry with such a conviction. If someone wants to be a "druggie", (if that should turn out to be the case with her) that's the price you pay. Buh bye.
PS, she's lucky this didn't happen in parts of Indonesia or some Arab nations. They still chop your head off, or hang you for possession. And in those places justice is swift. Sentence is passed, and 20 minutes later you are dead.
