I have heard that ignorance of the law is no excuse, she was at the mercy of the judge, his opinion and personal experience. it seems that so many people are treated differently by different judges, and I think the fact that she is a celebrity DID figure into his decision on how to sentence her. I would like to see what decision he has made in other similar cases, if he is known for meting out jail time for similar offenses, if not, then it was clearly skewed, and he gave her the Maximum sentence when he could have been more lenient. the scary thing is that these judges have the right to use their own personal judgement instead of just following the guidelines in sentencing. she was singled out for being a celebrity.

Paris could have used her DUI arrest to educate others on DUI and what is really the illegal level to drive.

I too was arrested for a .08 DUI. I didn't think I was drunk either. But, I was impaired, and that's all it takes to cause an accident.

At first I was stunned by my DUI and didn't think it was a big deal. But, I later learned different, because I followed my sentence and enrolled in DUI classes. ALL OF THIS WAS EXPLAINED TO ME VERY CLEARLY. You would have to be an idiot to not know your license is suspended or that you needed to take classes. Furthermore, none of it is MEANT to be easy. That's part of the punishment. The punishment is supposed to deter you from ever committing the crime again. Because next time, you might kill someone. THAT'S WHY IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU FOLLOW YOUR DUI SENTENCE. Her original sentence was the minimum. Just like anyone else in her situation, there are strict punishments for not following it.

She should use this as an opportunity to educate people. I would have done that with my DUI arrest, but I'm not a famous person like Paris.

Instead of doing that, the judge had to make an example out of her (which the judge would have done to anyone else).

45 days is a pathetic sentence for violating 3 years of probation.. if she were anyone else she would have gotten sentenced to the entire 3 years in PRISON instead of jail. She is correct the justice system is not fair but it just happens that it was in her favor and not against her.
