Rihanna Lashes Out At Parents Television Council For Criticizing Man Down Video

Posted on Thu Jun 2, 2011 10:50 AM PDT

Don't mess with Rihanna! After coming under fire with the Parent Television Council for the violence in her recent "Man Down" video, the sexy singer unleashed via Twitter. She Tweeted:

"I'm a 23 year old rockstar with NO KIDS! What's up with everybody wantin me to be a parent? I'm just a girl, I can only be your/our voice! We have the freedom to make art, LET US! Its your job to make sure they dont turn out like US. U can't hide your kids from society, or they'll never learn how to adapt! This is the REAL WORLD."

RiRi's Man Down video has been criticized by the PTC for certain violent scenes ... one in particular of RiRi gunning down a rapist in a crowded train station. The PTC says the scene shows a "cold, calculated execution of murder."

Read the statement issued by the PTC against Rihanna ... after the jump.

The Parent Television Council released the following statement:

"Rihanna's personal story and status as a celebrity superstar provided a golden opportunity for the singer to send an important message to female victims of rape and domestic violence. Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability."

When you release media worldwide which depicts and somewhat encourages illegal behavior you need to be held accountable, regardless of whether or not you yourself have children.

This isn't even an issue solely about children, these types of messages are detrimental for people of all ages.

You can make "music" and "art" without encouraging destructive and illegal behavior. Sounds like Chris Brown really knocked all of the sense out of her.

Oh and for all of the idiots complaining that the lyrics describe remorse for the murder rather than encouraging the act, not everyone listens to the lyrics or understands them so that is a moot point.

Rockstar??? Well... if she says so...

What an airhead. It's our job to make sure kids don't turn out like her. You speak so highly of yourself, "rockstar". Nothing more than a media ho.

but she loves those little kids money huh?!! doesn't care that she feeds them toxic SH%T , just pay her the money.

she's a looser, looks slutty, acts slutty and gross.... yuck! No personality other than f*ck me baby

Since when is 23 years old considered "just a girl"? I suppose when celebrities are coddled and treated like overgrown children, there's not need to grow up and take responsibility. Thanks to the entertainment industry for perpetuating the further infantilization of our society.

The unfortunate thing is if a woman decides to take matters in her own hands after being being or raped...and she shoots a man down she is going to be spending a lot of years in prison for it.
Guess Rihanna needs to become a spoke woman for women. Ha ha ..as much as ya might feel like shooting him down it would be the worst thing you could do. Rihanna step up to the plate and tell your fans thats not the way to handle it....b/4 somebody goes and shoots their man down....and thinks they will get away with it.

This video portrays terrible/evil people and their victims.... Parents can try to shield their children from the ugly side of life, but in this day and age kids will find their own access to it. Sad that RR is making $ from something so dark and evil, while there is so many beautiful things in life that she could artistically express.

I didn't hear anyone criticizing Lady GaGa and her Judas video or her Alejandro (boys in short shorts and high heals)! it all comes down to the parents and what they let their children watch (Parental Control on ur TV will help)

My nephew used to listen to head banger music. Some of it was about suicide. I think it gave him the encouragement to try to hang himself. The music could motivate someone that has been in a bad situation to go out and do something bad against their character and maybe kill someone. Ya can't cry for mama once the bad deed is done, cause mama can't help ya , and no one else can either. Hope those who hear it and see the video, don't take it seriously.

Some of the people Criticising Her (Industry Ears, etc.) are Chris Brown fans and are trying to draw sympathy for Chris even though he beat up Rihanna. This video is Not about Chris Brown ,at all , it is about a person seeking justice after a violent crime is done to her but has doubts about her own actions.

Rockstar?

HaHaHa...

A girl?Rihanna is adult enough to know what's right and what's wrong. She's an attention-whore and likes to call all the attention for her with her indecent and freak outfits. She has no kids, but should remember that videos with contents like those can influence to other people's kids. For not having kids, she should know that most of her videos are not appropriate to teens and kids because of their sexual and violent contents.Rihanna is a loser. And losers like her don't deserve respect. She should have learned something from the fight with Brown, but i see her behavior is getting worse. She's a talentless and futile whore. She's lame.

Posted by: Yeah..ROCKSTAR ON CRACK!!!

And with a "video" like that...she doesn't need to rush into Motherhood...GROW UP RIHANNA!!!

Violence is never a reasonable solution to violence- plain and simple. The only way Rihanna is a girl is in her maturity level. What a hypocrite!

I am so happy that people are commenting the truth here! Rihanna and other "music" artists sell their soul for the all mighty dollar! so they are going to take your kids money and even your grandparents money without feeling responsible for the messages they put out in public. One must be very careful when s/he has a voice in public and are able to influence others. I say this because I am working in human rights and it makes me cry to see young men and women idolizing prostitution and pimping, selling sex, and having destructive sex with as many people as they possible can while on drugs and alcohol. It's not just inner city minority kids - it's everyone! so I wish "artists" like Rihanna and Britney and the rest of Hollywood stop encouraging young women to become prostitutes. I can't tell you how many girls are so slutty now!!! And the men are worse more than ever! You can't find a guy who hasn't been with a million girls and won't give you HIV.

I LOVE RIHANNA BUT................. WHY DIDN'T YOU GO TO YOUR OWN COUNTRY AND SHOOT THAT KIND OF VIDEO? AS I JAMAICAN I AM REALLY OFFENDED.........

Posted by: Anonymous

No! It's your pathetic life. Most of us don't have top deal with any of the crap you base your "art" on and we prefer our children don't have to deal with it either. Get some professional help!

Posted by: Anonymous

since when is making music "art". your musicians, not "artists". You arent creative. You arent thinking outside the square. All the music is the same slutty whinging crap. Think of something DIFFERENT and then MAYBE you can call yourself an "artist"

Posted by: Lynn

She makes herself look real stupid with a comment like that. The people who spend money on this trash are truly stupid

Posted by: Lynn

Rihanna is a fraud and all she's worried about is wearing brand name clothes and wigs. She still ugly after wearing the most expensive clothes in the world and she's digging her own grave because most people are now glad Chris Brown beat the crap out of her.

Posted by: nini

i do not care about the messege or lyrics of the song in what it involves my children, thye do not know who she or mtv are i took care of that for now, what i want to know is when did she get a boobjob, coz she used to have no tits and now they are there full on

Posted by: Anonymous

The real world? yeah if you live in the ghetto. My kids dont need to see someone being shot in the head so they are able to adapt to life as she says. And please, nobody wants her to be a "parent". She shouldn't breed!

Posted by: Anonymous

it's time for the parents to stop buying the kids her albums/cds if she doen't have any buyers she'll start with a different tune!

Posted by: Anonymous

Really ironic, We started a war for money, We defend the use of guns even if you're 5 and we say that a music video is a bad example for the kids, Lol, are you joking? If you're not sure about you're parenthood skills join PTC. Totally agree with Rihanna.

Posted by: Anonymous

In some scenes, she reminded me of Calypso in Pirates....eeeek.

Posted by: None ya business

Here is a tip parents; if you are concerned about the violence in this video DON'T LET YOUR KIDS WATCH IT! It's that simple. Monitor what they watch. I am the parent of of 2 kids and I know exactly what they watch and when. That's what a parent does. It's not rocket science it's common sense!

Posted by: Older female

I am with Rhianna on this one. let her tell the story as she sees fit. If you dont like it then dont watch or listen to it. Why does anyone in the public eye have to censor what they think to suit the world? The people that use the excuse - violent or horror movies made me kill or rape are pathetic creatures. I watched her film clip and love the song and the clip. Keep it up Rhianna.

What went wrong on The X Factor today with Britney Spears?

Britney definitely had another meltdown. This is proof she's not ready to step back into the spotlight!
I think Britney may have overreacted to a bad audition, but it will be entertaining to watch later!
I think Simon Cowell planned this all along. Brit probably even rehearsed it!
