Rooney Mara is hard at work on the set of her new movie, The Bitter Pill, and we had to do a double take to notice it was her! We're so used to seeing the Oscar-nominated actress with short, dark locks that we barely recognized her. Looking fierce girl!

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star is so much prettier when she's not covered in piercings and ink like she was in her breakout role.

The Bitter Pill is based on a woman who turns to prescription medication as a way of handling her anxiety concerning her husband's upcoming release from prison. Starring alongside the actress is Channing Tatum, Jude Law, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Is it just us, or does Miss Mara strike an uncanny resemblance to Emily Blunt with this 'do?

Taking the plunge in a dazzling ivory Givenchy gown with a deep V-neckline and sparkling Fred Leighton jewels, Oscar nominee Rooney Mara took our breath away when she arrived at the 2012 Oscars in Hollywood, on Sunday.

The 26-year-old actress is nominated for her role as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but she's got some stiff competition tonight!

Mara recently revealed to USA Today of the sole requirement for her Oscar dress, "I don't think about it [choosing a dress] in terms of what people say or like or think. I try to find something that I feel comfortable in. I do like fashion, but if it's not comfortable, I won't wear it."

Rooney Mara greeted fans at the Santa Barbara Film Festival last night, and the star of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo happily signed autographs and posed for pictures. While she's still rocking Lisbeth Salander's black hair and pale skin, it was a nice change of pace to see the starlet wearing something colorful!

The 26-year-old actress was presented with the Virtuosos Award, which honors "a select group of actors who have distinguished themselves through performances in film." Other 2012 Virtuosos Award honorees include Shailene Woodley, Patton Oswalt, Andy Serkis, Demián Bichir and Melissa McCarthy, so she's definitely in good company -- and let's not forget about that Oscar nod!

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Flops At The Box Office

Dec 26, 2011 11:30 AM

the-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo-movie-photo-230.jpgThe Girl With The Dragon Tattoo had a budget close to $90 million, however the highly-anticipated flick only brought in $13 million during opening weekend.

When asked if that makes Dragon Tattoo a flop, one movie analyst tells E!:

"A debut of $13 million over the holiday season is equivalent to a lump of coal, especially for a film that brings along this much fanfare. With a budget approaching $90 million, plus purchasing the rights to the Millennium franchise, plus big-time marketing, this will go down as a dud."

Ouch! In positive box office news, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol raked in $26.5 million, followed by Sherlock Holmes with $17.8 million. Rounding out the top three ... the newest Chipmunks flick.

We'll see if Dragon Tattoo picks up steam at the box office as the new year approaches.

Daniel Craig Rooney Mara Robin Wright The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo red carpet

Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara posed for photos at the NYC premiere of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and while the Kardashians' biggest fan looked like his usual dapper self, Rooney left the facial piercings and goth clothes on set and stunned onlookers in a sexy black Prabal Gurung dress.

Rooney appeared on last night’s episode of The Late Show With David Letterman, and she revealed that producers had doubts as to whether she could pull off the role of Lisbeth Salander. So what did she do to prove herself? She hit the bars, of course! ”It had been two months at that point [of the audition process], and I was just relieved to go out and get drunk,” Rooney joked, adding that she vomited all night.

The actress was nominated for a Golden Globe this morning for her role in the thriller, so it sounds like her horrific hangover was well worth it!

Rooney Mara Chats With Vogue About The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Oct 17, 2011 12:58 PM

rooney-mara-vogue-cover-230.jpgRooney Mara covers the November issue of Vogue Magazine, and the star of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo chats about her dramatic transformation into Lisabeth Salander, how she handled the film's brutal rape scene and she even slams one of her first big roles.

When it came to completing her look, Mara reveals that she had ALL of the body piercings done on the same day. "I went in looking like Erica Albright and I came out like this ... The eyebrows were the biggest shock because that really changed my face, and I didn’t recognize myself.” And the body modification didn't stop there! Mara had to stay super thin for the role, and she noted, “One of the things that make our version that much more heartbreaking is that even though I am playing a 24-year-old, I look much younger. I look like a child.” When asked if she had to get unhealthily skinny for the role, she says, “Umm ... not really.” Director David Fincher (who accompanied her for parts of the interview) quickly added, “It hasn’t been too hard for her."

The writer for Vogue commented on the relationship between the young starlet and Fincher, describing it as one that is "charged with the electric current of the mentor-protegee crush, which is both touching and occasionally uncomfortable to watch." Daniel Craig (who plays Mikael Blomkvist in the film), says of the interaction between the two, “It’s f***ing weird!” Fincher auditioned everyone from Scarlett Johansson to unknown actresses from New Zealand, so it's interesting that he went with Mara, who worked with him on 2010's The Social Network.

When asked about the film's controversial rape scene, Mara admits it was a bit traumatizing. “I don’t know how to describe it. I think, physically, it was hardest," she says. "I got really beat up. But I gave myself a few days and then I was fine.”

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Red Brand Trailer Mysteriously Surfaces On The Web

May 30, 2011 10:15 AM

David Fincher’s highly anticipated film adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, starring The Social Network’s Rooney Mara, doesn’t hit theaters till December, but somehow a trailer for the top-secret film has surfaced on the net.

Could Sony Pictures be the leak?

The trailer was supposedly pirated in Europe, but how often do they get American movies before the U.S.?

The theater also showed an MPAA advisory at the beginning, which is aimed at U.S. moviegoers, and Sony hasn’t made an attempt to remove the video, or make a comment on it's early appearance. Hmmmm.

It’s also curious how top-quality the video is. There are no other theatergoers in the room, and the picture is near perfect, aside from a few minor shakes at the beginning.

Could Sony be taking a cue from Dragon Tattoo’s computer savvy heroine, Lisbeth Salander, and try fool us by releasing it early?

Check out the trailer, and tell us when you think!
