CLICK HERE to read BusinessWeek.com's report on the what could be a dismal future for file-sharing sites like YouTube and others that constantly and consistently host stolen content and claim safe harbor under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. With the Viacom vs. You Tube suit, the DMCA may turn out NOT to be the protection these "sharing" sites had hoped for.
Sure, these sites are fun and groundbreaking in their technology, reach, popularity, etc., but is it fair for content owners whose work is featured on these sites against their will?
All I have to say is, thank you Sumner Redstone! A word of warning, though, Mr. Redstone -- check out Dotspotter that you just bought through CBS for $10 million and rolled up under TheInsider.com -- your online property's doing the same thing as YouTube! Time to figure out a new business model!
