The X Factor Offers $5 Million Grand Prize To Winner

Feb 7, 2011 07:02 AM

simon5mil27.jpg We got the first peek at The X Factor last night during the Super Bowl, and now Fox has announced that the show will be awarding the winner a $5 million record deal with creator Simon Cowell’s joint venture with Sony Music.

“I like the idea that a 12-year-old on this show can compete with an older singer and a singing group,” Cowell said in a statement. “I’ve never believed there should be a cut-off age for talent, and we are going to put our money where our mouths are with the $5 million recording contract. I’m doing this show in America because I genuinely believe we can find a superstar.”

The CW

Er, make that a burning desire to watch the new episodes this month!

The CW is currently promoting the midseason return of The Vampire Diaries, and what better way to do it than to reference venereal diseases? Ha! Can't wait for some fresh blood, along with the return of Ian Somerhalder's gorgeous face...

Rick Sanchez Let Go From CNN After Controversial Comments

Oct 2, 2010 08:52 AM

sanchezrick.jpg After CNN anchor Rick Sanchez appeared on the Stand Up! with Pete Dominick SiriusXM radio show on Friday and commented that Jon Stewart was "a bigot" and that CNN was "run by Jews," the news network issued a statement announcing that he has been let go from his position. “Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company," the statement read. "We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.“

Sanchez said there's racism in the media "not just [from] the right," but also "elite, Northeast establishment liberals" that "deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier."

Stewart had no comment on the story, but insider tells The Hollywood Reporter he may discuss it on The Daily Show on Monday. Do you think Sanchez should have been let go for his statements? Aug 31, 2010 12:18 PM

rollingstoncovermadmen.jpg The Emmy Award-winning cast of Mad Men grace the latest issue of Rolling Stone, and we can't get enough of John Hamm, but January Jones is the only one we're looking at here!

Co-stars Christina Hendricks and Elisabeth Moss also share the cover with Don and Betty, and the article inside examines what makes the cast click and how the show has captivated America. Mad Men producer Matthew Weiner tells the mag, "The big question the show is trying to answer through Don [Draper] has to do with identity. Who am I? — It's only the biggest theme in all of Western literature."

To make it work, Weiner brought together "veteran actors who had spent their careers toiling in relative obscurity." The article notes that January Jones and Christina Hendricks were stars that "nobody wanted," and now "everybody knows their names, everybody covets their careers, everybody wants to get next to them." True that!
