T.I. Sued For Copyright Infringement On Grammy-Winning What You Know
Posted on Mon Jan 25, 2010 03:22 PM PDT
What you know about copyright infringement? That's what Los Angeles based rapper/producer Motoe Blizzid has to say to T.I., claiming the Grammy winner ripped "substantial portions" of his song "Reverence" without authorization and then used it his 2006 hit song "What You Know."
The suit is being filed in a Los Angeles federal court, and Motoe Blizzid (nee Nathan Filby), is being represented by One LLP, an entertainment and intellectual property litigation firm known for handling high-profile copyright infringement suits.
John Tehranian, Filby's attorney, tells X17online:
- "In recent years, the recording industry has taken a particularly strong stance against copyright infringement, filing countless multi-million dollar suits against individuals for online file sharing. We are hopeful that T.I., Atlantic Records and Warner Brothers will demonstrate the same respect for copyright in responding to this suit."
Filby is a producer, rapper, and composer who has performed with artists including Ice-T, Snoop Dog, Beastie Boys, Ludacris, and The Roots, among others.
Filby's lawsuit names T.I., Grand Hustle, Atlantic Records and Warner Bros. Entertainment as defendants. Requests for a statement from T.I.'s camp have not yet been returned.
Think T.I. will get in trouble for this?
