It's about time! He had to say something eventually.
Tiger Woods will be making his first public statement since this whole car accident/cheating scandal began late last year. The golfer will "will be speaking to a small group of friends, colleagues and close associates" this Friday in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse. Tiger's official website has this to say:
- "While Tiger feels that what happened is fundamentally a matter between him and his wife, he also recognizes that he has hurt and let down a lot of other people who were close to him. He also let down his fans. He wants to begin the process of making amends, and that's what he's going to discuss.
His remarks will be open to a press pool for live coverage. It is NOT a news conference."
Hmm, sounds like he won't be taking any questions. This apology better be good!
Another wrinkle in the story - Tiger's statement will be held during the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona... Accenture was the first sponsor to drop Tiger after the scandal hit. However, the golf pro's agent, Mark Steinberg, insists it was simply "a matter of timing."
And when Steinberg was asked if the statement could have waited until after the tournament, he said: "No."
But why have the press conference at the TPC Sawgrass near Jacksonville? Tiger's in Orlando!
Ty Votaw, EVP of the PGA Tour, tells X17online the following: "We were asked by his organization to provide a facility and we were happy to do so. They requested our help."
And as for the fact that Accenture's tournament is the same day? Could it be that Tiger is kinda sorta trying to take the spotlight away from them?
Votaw claims it's "just a timing issue and purely coincidental."
What will Tiger say???
