Tom Cruise Files $50 Million Lawsuit Against Two Magazines For Claiming He Abandoned Daughter Suri

Oct 24, 2012 12:59 PM

cruise-suri-230.jpgTom Cruise has just filed a $50 million lawsuit against both Life & Style and In Touch, claiming the magazines (owned by Bauer publishing) defamed him by reporting he had abandoned his 6-year-old daughter Suri.

The Mission Impossible star is suing for $50 million plus punitive damages for defamation and invasion of privacy.

The July 30th cover of Life & Style reads, "Suri In Tears, Abandoned By Her Dad" and the October 1st cover of In Touch shows a picture of Suri and states, "Abandoned By Daddy." According to the suit, which was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Cruise claims the headlines are false, maintaining that he "loves his daughter dearly and would never abandon her."

Cruise's attorney, Bert Fields said in a statement:

"Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri. She's a vital part of his life and always will be. To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible. Tom doesn't go around suing people. He's not a litigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he's going to sue. These serial defamers are foreign owned companies with their global headquarters in Hamburg. They take money from unsuspecting Americans by selling their malicious garbage. Having to pay a libel judgment may slow them down."

Fields added that any money Tom gets from the magazines will go to charity.

Report: Tom Cruise Considers Leaving Scientology For Katie Holmes And Suri Cruise

Oct 14, 2012 09:15 AM

TCruise072812_01_230.jpgHis devotion to Scientology was to blame for his split with Katie Holmes earlier this year, but now it appears Tom Cruise might be headed in a different direction.

According to Mirror Online, sources close to the 50-year-old actor claims that he's considering cutting ties with the church in an effort to win back Katie and to see more of his daughter Suri Cruise.

“Now he’s lost the most precious thing in his life, he sees that his Scientology beliefs may not have hurt his box office but have ended not one but two marriages," the source said. “It was a terrifying and rude awakening for Tom when Katie served him with divorce papers. He’s used to feeling undefeatable and untouchable. When he lost Katie he felt a failure.”

Cruise first joined the church back in 1990 when he was married to his first wife Mimi Rogers. His connection with the religion came into question when he later split with his second wife Nicole Kidman.

Cruise has been busy shooting his latest film Oblivion in Europe but has reportedly expressed his desire to begin separating himself from the religious sect.

“Tom is no longer volunteering to be the public poster boy for Scientology," the source added. "You’ll see he is seriously calming that down, he will head up the annual fundraisers and awards show but that’s in-house."

Tom Cruise Hasn't Seen Suri In Over A Month, But Calls Her Everyday, Lawyer Says

Sep 21, 2012 11:00 AM

cruise230.jpg Divorce is never easy, especially for the children!

Tom Cruise hasn't been photographed with daughter Suri since their father/daughter outing to Disney World in July, and before everyone jumps to conclusions about the A-list actor abandoning his little girl, they should hear the reason behind the Rock of Ages star's absence!

"Tom has been in England shooting a film," Cruise's attorney Bert Fields tells E! News.

Not that he has been shirking on daddy duty!

"He calls Suri every day, sometimes twice a day. He loves Suri and is a constant presence in her life. As in the past, when he's shooting in a foreign countru, he has to rely on daily phone calls," Fields adds.

The fashionable 6-year-old is keeping busy with mom Katie Holmes these days, and even started classes at a prestigious private school in New York City last week.

The former power couple's split has apparently been hard on the little girl, however. "The divorce has been hard on Suri and she's acting out. Katie says no to some things, but gives a little leeway. She knows Tom is going to spoil her," a source close to Holmes told Us Weekly recently.

Stay strong Suri!

The Church Of Scientology Fights Back Against Vanity Fair Over "Disgraceful" And "Defamatory" Cover Story

Sep 18, 2012 10:50 AM

vanity-fair-scientology-230.jpgThe Church of Scientology has fired back against Vanity Fair for the cover story they published this month, which goes into dirty details about the religion and Tom Cruise's alleged auditions for a new partner.

Journalist Maureen Orth claims that Shelly Miscavige, wife of Scientology chief David Miscavige, and other Scientology officials auditioned dozen of young women for Cruise prior to his marriage to Katie Holmes, among them being Nazanin Boniadi. The article goes into details about Cruise and Boniadi's odd courtship, including how the actress was punished for violating her confidentiality agreement with the star after they split.

Attorney Jeffrey K. Riffer posted a scathing 8-page letter on the Church Of Scientology's website, slamming Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter and Orth, labeling her as "a bigot." The lengthy rant also contains threats of legal action, with Riffer writing, "The disgraceful allegations Vanity Fair apparently plan to publish about Mr. Miscavige are defamatory. If Vanity Fair goes forward with publication of such defamatory allegations, now that it is on notice that the story is false, the stain on its reputation will last long after any reader even remembers the article. The sting of the jury verdict will last longer still; far longer than any pleasure from racing to publish a poorly researched and sourced story."

"Scientology is a new religion and its beliefs not as well known as those of more ancient history," Riffer continues. "That does not excuse you or Ms. Orth for being ignorant. Rather, it demands you be even more sensitive to finding out what the true beliefs are of Scientology -- which can only be told by the religion itself. Just because you don't think you are bigoted doesn't mean you aren't. Bigotry and ignorance go hand in hand and you are definitely and willfully ignorant of the actual beliefs of Scientology and the activities of its Churches."

In response to the letter, Vanity Fair said in a statement to CNN, "We absolutely stand by Maureen Orth's story. Vanity Fair has never paid sources and never would."

Report: Actress Nazanin Boniadi Auditioned To Be Tom Cruise's Girlfriend Before Katie Holmes

Sep 3, 2012 07:35 AM

cruise-Boniadi.jpg

Before Katie Holmes (but after wives Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers, not to mention a romance with his Vanilla Sky co-star Penelope Cruz), Tom Cruise and the Church of Scientology reportedly interviewed actress Nazanin Boniadi to be his new ladylove.

In the October issue of Vanity Fair, reporter Maureen Orth claims that in 2004, Shelly Miscavige, wife of Scientology chief David Miscavige, was trying to set Cruise up with actresses who were already Scientology members. The young starlets were told they were auditioning for a new movie and then asked several questions including, "What do you think of Tom Cruise?"

Orth claims Boniadi dated Cruise from November 2004 until January 2005. "In a month-long preparation in October 2004, she was audited every day, a process in which she told a high-ranking Scientology official her innermost secrets and every detail of her sex life," Orth writes. "Boniadi allegedly was told to lose her braces, her red highlights, and her boyfriend." One source says Boniadi signed a confidentiality agreement, yet Scientology representatives deny any audition process took place.

Boniadi, 32, first met Cruise, 50, in New York City in November of 2004, and according to Orth, "That's when she first sensed that this was possibly going to be an arranged marriage." So what did they do on their first date? "The two spent that first night together but, according to several sources, they did not have sex," Orth writes.

Boniadi eventually moved into Cruise's home and they shared a bedroom, and she was also given a credit card issued in the name of his production company. However, in late January, Boniadi was asked to move out of Cruises's home and into Scientology's Celebrity Centre. She was then told that Cruise "wants someone with her own power -- like Nicole." When Boniadi asked why the A-list actor would not break up with her in person, she was told he "was not to be disturbed."

Boniadi was later sent to a Scientology center in Florida, where she reportedly spilled the beans to a friend about her relationship with Cruise. According to Orth, the pal reported Boniadi, and she was punished for violating her confidentiality agreement by being assigned to scrub toilets with a toothbrush, clean bathroom tiles with acid and dig ditches in the middle of the night. A Scientology spokesperson denied Orth's source's claim, telling Vanity Fair, "The Church does not punish people, especially in [that] manner."

Hmm, do you believe any of this?

Tom Cruise Asked About Top Gun Director Tony Scott's Shocking Suicide

Aug 20, 2012 08:00 AM

Tom Cruise dined at Madeo Restaurant in West Hollywood last night, and the 53-year-old actor looked visibly upset after learning about the shocking suicide of his Top Gun and Days of Thunder director, Tony Scott.

Scott committed suicide on Sunday when he jumped off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro around 12:30pm, and several eyewitnesses on the bridge and in the water saw the director leap to his death. “There was no hesitation,” said Los Angeles Police Department officer David Shelton. “There was no negotiating him off the ledge.”

Scott's body was recovered by divers around 4:30pm, and a suicide note was found in his Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge.

While Tom has yet to comment on Scott's tragic death, other celebs have taken to Twitter to pay their respects. Dane Cook tweeted, "Devastated by the death of Tony Scott. Just watched True Romance 1 of my top 5 fav movies ever a few nights ago. #RIP," and Ron Howard wrote, "No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day." Adam Shankman added, "My heart stopped when I heard of the tragic death of 1 of r most inspiring directors, Tony Scott. Rest In Peace Tony. U will be missed so…"
