Roman Polanski Asks Court To Be Released From Custody

Looks like this story is going to go on for a while...

Roman Polanski was arrested in Zurich over the weekend, 30 years after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.

Now the director's lawyers have filed a motion asking for their client to be released from Swiss custody, clearly in an attempt to avoid extradition to the United States. The Swiss Federal Criminal Court says the "decision will be made within the next weeks." Will Roman remain detained?

Meanwhile, victim Samantha Geimer has also asked for Roman to be dismissed, claiming she just "wants the case to be over."

Below is a trailer for Wanted and Desired, an HBO doc suggesting there was foul play behind the scenes:

So much going on here! What do you think?

Roman has definitely had a rough life.

I think we will see him in an American courtroom right after someone teaches cats to march in a parade.

The real lesson here is that judges should set controls on people convicted who are not in jail waiting for their sentence. He should have been controlled so that flight was not possible.

A second lesson is the status of nations who protect convicted criminals that live within their borders and aid their escape from justice, perhaps by holding without bail all citizens of those nations when they face trial here.

Rape is rape. It doesn't matter the rapist is a regular Joe or some big name director making artsy fartsy movies.

The little girl he raped was 13 years old for God's sake. That's a child. It's not even 16 or 17 years old.

If you let him go, what message does that send? If you have deep Hollywood connection and you make high art, you should be excused of doing anything harmful to children? Bullshit!

For leaders and officials protesting Polanski's freedom, they are pathetic assholes sitting on high places.

Excellent insight, Fred. I couldn't agree more.

He needs to go to jail so all these lame directors and entertainers won't think they can get away with incest and sexually abusing children.

Once prosecutors got the case, it's about protecting the public and being fair. It's out of the victims' hands.

Just like Rihanna didn't want Chris to have legal problems. She didn't want the trial but it's not up to her. It's about public safety. If the crime is serious, the person has to be punished so he will learn a lesson and won't do it again to others. It's also about being fair to other criminals. You can't let go a singer and only punish a suburban dad if they commit the same crime.

He was 40 and the girl was 13. They had intercourse. Enough said.

It's not just touching or kissing. It's intercourse. What more do you need to feel this is a sick man. And he didn't even perceive he was wrong. French people are lame socialists who think they are so romantic and they don't need boundaries. Vomit!

Unless there is something major I am not aware of (like a plea agreement or something) I can NOT believe countries like France are actually bashing the US for wanting him to serve his sentence. It makes me sick to my stomach to hear some of these "Artsy" types saying he should be set free because he is a gifted director. He raped a 13 year old, right?? Oh that is right-he plead guilty so there is no question about that. I don't give a flying f@#K if it was 50 years ago he never paid for his crime. I also don't care what the now 43 yr. old victim says, maybe she is over it and that is great but he still needs to pay for it. Maybe we should send all of our CONVICTED rapist to France. If it was some broke ass nobody the headlines would sure be a lot different. Sickening.

In what world do we live in when celeb-idiots think it's ok to get away with DRUGGING AND RAPING A 13YR OLD.

He is pleading for Hillary Clinton to help him, well where was Hillary when Neda bled to death in the streets of Tehran for daring to practice FREE SPEECH.

Let's hope the Swiss have some balls and send this guy back to the US for some long overdue justice!

That's a good one. Send France all the rapists and molesters.

Let him go. I know where he is coming from as I have f*cked Miley, Selena & V. Hudgens many times and unloaded numerous ounces of my man batter all over as well as in them.

I think he's a disgusting piece of shit, and he deserves to serve the time. These Celebs. that are standing by him disgust me, if it wasn't a high profile person I doubt they would be behind it. I hope they bring him to the US so he can serve his time. I don't take lightly regarding people who drug and rape minors. How would you feel if it was your daughter?!

Some of the film people and culture vultures who are calling Polanski the victim, need to stop, think and realize that a 13 year old was raped. A 13 year old is unable to give consent to sexual exploitation, by legal definition and psychological reality. The girl was the victim, not Polanski, as they seem to be saying.

Polanski admitted at least part of his guilt, but then fled. He's a fugitive from justice. He's finally been apprehended. I hope he's extradited and faces the music in court.

As for his apologists... being a "great" director doesn't mean he is immune from the law. Having experienced some tragedy in his life doesn't excuse what he did either. It doesn't matter that his victim wants this to go away. Of course she does. The news stories about him are a reminder of what happened, and must make her uncomfortable. But it isn't really about her. It's about him being a fugitive.

Justice delayed is still justice.

There is no justice in laws instituted by man. Laws of the land were developed so that the rich could prey on the weak, check your law books and political leaders. Many people once grieved for Roman Polanski because of the Manson murders. Now they want his blood.
Before you judge Polanski, look in the mirror and see your own faults and sins.
No one is better, some may be worse. Go ahead, throw the first stone!! Hypocrites.

Hypocrites, you're an idiot. I never raped anyone, or committed a crime. This piece of shit fled, he is a fugitive. I don't care about his status.

I certainly know that I would never commit crimes like that, and If I ever did anything like that then I would deserve to serve time as well.

Yes, only God can forgive him, but we live by certain laws, and he avoided it by fleeing.

I can't believe there is actually people who stand by this man, and for the crimes he committed. I'm sure if it was your Daughter you wouldn't feel this way.
