LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - The CW network may try to duplicate the popularity of its teen soap "Gossip Girl" by spinning off one of the show's characters into a new series, according to Variety.

Rumors of a new series have been around for some time since the "Gossip Girl" books - on which the series is based - have a spin-off of their own, "The It Girl."

However, sources say the CW's spin-off would likely not focus on Taylor Momsen's "Jenny Humphrey" character, on who "The It Girl" books focus.

The TV spinoff would nonetheless likely center on one of the show's nine regular characters, although sources said bringing in a new character hadn't been ruled out.
