Angelina Teams Up With Patricia Cornwell For Scarpetta Series
Posted on Wed Apr 22, 2009 09:00 AM PDT

JolieCornwell200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) -Variety reports that Angelina, Fox 2000 and author Patricia Cornwell are teaming up for a film franchise based on Cornwell's bestselling book series on medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta.

There are 16 novels in the series, which will be turned into a suspense thriller similar to "The Silence of the Lambs" and "Seven."

Scarpetta is an opera-loving coroner, and this seems like the perfect match for Angelina - she's one of the most sought after female movie stars, and Cornwell is one of the best selling female authors in the world.

I'm looking forward to seeing it and with these two women involved it has to be a sucess.

I am disappointed in this choice. I really enjoy the Scarpetta books but guess I wont see the movie. I cannot stand Angelina Jolie

Ditto to anonymous. What a poor choice for someone to play Scarpetta. I suppose they will want Brad to play Benton now . . .

What about Marg Helgenberger? She's more who I envisioned as I read Cornwell

I love, love, love the Scarpetta novels. I'm not a huge Jolie fan, but she is a good actress, so let's give her the opportunity to do right by Scarpetta. But, Ms. Jolie, Scarpetta does not know she is beautiful, so you will have to take it down a number of notches. Who will be Merino? Dennis Franz from NYPD Blue?

I am nearing the end of my very first Kay Scarpetta book (Book of the Dead) and all along, the only person I've visualized as Kay is the actress Kelli Williams from the TV series Lie to Me. If you've ever watched that show, you'd know she's perfect.

Can't see Angelina in this at all.

Sorry Patricia I love your books but wont watch the movie unless another person portrays Kay. I feel this is a very POOR choice.

man, as much as I love Scarpetta's books, Angelina Jolie (as gorgeous as she is) is NOT Kay Scarpetta. Frankly, I think she's a little young, and TOO pretty.... Not tough enough... oy.

I have to agree with the majority here. Ms. Cornwell's books are fantastic, I have read every one of them and look forward to the next. But, I do not feel that Ms. Jolie can do Dr. Scarpetta justice. I agree with the Marg Helgenberger idea.

Sandra Bullock would be a much better choice, she is human.

Patricia, my husband and I have read and own all of your books, however, angelina is in no way Scarpetta, you should pick an actress who can act, and who looks normal, just like you describe Scarpetta in your books. You should pick someone who can speak with intellegence, clarity, and be sincere. The books are about the victims, not Kay, she is there to bring justice to the forefront, not personal advancement.

I've read every single Kay Scarpatta novel but choosing Angelia Jolie? Ugh. You may as way cast Paris Hilton as Lucy. What a dissapointment.

i AGREE WITH JOANNE SANDRA BULLOCK WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER CHOICE,BUT IT REALLY DOESNT MATTER I JUST CANT WAIT TO SEE SCARPETTA COME TO LIFE. I LOVE YOUR BOOKS AND FIND IT HARD TO GET INTERESTED IN ANY OTHER NOVELS, A FAN THAT CANT WAIT UNTIL YOUR NEXT BOOK SO I HOPE YOU ARE ALREADY WORKING HARD ON IT. ANGIE

I think a great choice would have been Leslie Hendrix, who plays the medical examiner Dr. Elizabeth Rodgers on the original "Law and Order" series and its spin-offs. She's a little older at 49, but she's smart, tough and sassy. And she's been a blond, redhead, etc.
