LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - After eight seasons, Paula Abdul has confirmed that she is leaving American Idol.

"With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to Idol. I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon. What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me. I do, without any doubt, have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all," Paula wrote in a post on her Twitter account Tuesday.

So far there's no comment from American Idol Producers, however they have said in the past they were very much committed to having Paula remain with the show.

Abdul and the producers had been battling for weeks over terms of a new contract. The two sides were apparently unable to agree on financial terms.
