George Lopez Takes On Speedy Gonzales

lopezheadshot200.jpgLOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (X17online) - Speedy Gonzales will be racing to a theater near you. The mouse with the signature red kerchief will be voiced by comedian George Lopez.

New Line will bring the classic Looney Tunes character to the big screen in a live-action/CG hybrid feature.

Ocean's Eleven mega-producer Jerry Weintraub will co-produce the upcoming film with George Lopez.

The Speedy character, that debuted in the 1950s, has been criticized in the past for being stereotypically racist. Aware of this, New Line plans to update the brand by having it take place in modern day.

Lopez's wife Anne says the character will have George's "Latino seal of approval."

Speedy Gonzalez was not a racist in anyway. It was a cartoon that was for that time and era relevant in every way.
