LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Sources say that shock jock Howard Stern may be the first in line to replace Simon Cowell when the Brit bad boy leaves American Idol at the end of this season.
This is either the best idea or the worst idea ever.
An Idol insider tells Page Six that Stern, Sirius XM Radio deal expires next January, is their first choice to fill the role.
"They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants," says the source. "Idol will do what it takes to sign him."
But the insider also notes that Stern may not be ready to leave radio -- not to mention New York -- to travel around the country for auditions and spend several months out of the year in Los Angeles. Plus, Idol bosses may not be able to compete with a Sirius XM offer, should it come in. (Simon makes $50 mil a year, while Howard takes in double that.)
"I was approached by a major TV network to take over a TV show and leave here and do that next year -- and I did turn it down," said Stern on a recent radio show. "I'm not even sure if I want to be working. I'm waiting to see what happens."
his ugly face is meant for radio. If he goes there, its an instant show killer.
I have faithfully watched Idol since season one. Howard Stern comes on. I will not watch EVER. EVER EVER.
I would totally watch Howard...he's as qualified as Ellen.

My husband and I have been faithful watchers of Idol. I always vote for my favorite too! If Howard Stern takes over for Simon we will never ever watch again. He's a show stopper. (meaning canceled)

Stern does not qualify for the show and whoever thought of him must be a cool-aid drinker. Stern is better off just sticking to the dirt on his radio show.

I have to disagree. I've been watching AI since season 1 and it needs something new. If it werent for Simon I would have tuned out long ago. If Simon's replacement is not as honest with the contestants then the show is dead. I think Howard deliver that. He can be brutally honest.
He was inappropriate for regular TV. Who in the world thinks he would keep his comments in check for prime time TV? It would be a huge disservice to the viewing public and to the contestants for his foul mouth to be "bleeped" throughout the entire show. It would be a deal buster!!
Our family watches AI together. If Stern is even a guest on there we would no longer watch it
