LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Despicable Me, featuring the voice of Steve Carell, brought in over $60 million at the box office over the weekend ... leaving Predators in the dust. The alien thriller opened with $25.3 million.
Dropping to the number two spot ... The Twilight Saga: Eclipse with $33.4 million. However, the vampire flick has already brought in a domestic total of $237 million.
As for Despicable Me, Universal Pictures predicted a much lower box office total, so the generated revenue came as a surprise, according to analysts. The animated film played in 1,551 theaters in which the movie was seen in 3-D.
Despicable is expected to generate over $150 million within the next month.
