Discovery To Invest $50 Million More In OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network

NEW YORK, New York (X17online) - Discovery Communications revealed Friday it will invest an additional $50 million in OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, particularly in programming.
President and CEO David Zaslav said Discovery expects to increase funding to help drive the network, a joint venture with Oprah Winfrey, to longer-term profitability and growth with stronger content.
CFO Brad Singer said Discovery invested an additional $46 million in OWN in the fourth quarter and expects to spend an incremental $50 million on added funding beyond its original $189 million commitment to the network. Programming investments will be the focus.
Although OWN currently features a lot of reruns, over the next six to 12 months, original programming will begin to grow stronger as the network progresses.

I love and respect Oprah Winfrey. She has made tremendous impact during her career, and it's sad that OWN channel, which launched only two months ago, is already on decline of its viewership, also its ratings are 10 per cent lower than for the cable channel OWN replaced - it was Discovery Health. The Oprah Channel is a $240 million joint venture with Discovery and it for sure deserves to attract the audience. But for that the channel must has strong visionaries on board with almost revolutionary ideas for the content that has never been produced before. Then the channel will have an ability to make even larger impact on the state of the society worldwide. It's too bad that nobody in Ms.Winfrey's team responds to the proposal that I've sent :-) We could have taken OWN channel to completely new level with the strategy that I have in place. But the dialog must start... Until then... ;-) Oh well ;-)
