The Times reports that the network will announce Couric's successor in the first week of May, once she has returned from covering the royal wedding.
Couric's exit from the program has been reported for the past month, but she has not acknowledged it on the program nor confirmed it in interviews with other outlets. She has anchored the show since September 2006; her contract with CBS is up June 4.
Scott Pelley, a 60 Minutes correspondent, is expected to take Couric's place.
As for her plans, Couric said April 13 that she is considering launching her own daytime talk show.

This is no surprise. I am surprised though that she lasted as long as she did on the Nightly News. I liked Katie Couric when she was on the Today Show and felt the move to news anchor was a mistake. It was. She lacks the perseverance needed as a solo news anchor. It is a shame too that she never got out of the cellar in ratings. I think a talk show on her own is also a mistake. She is a good ensemble person, not solo.
