The LAPD confirmed that a gang member shot a rival Wednesday night, with the latter being hospitalized for bullet wounds on his arm and above his lip, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Gyllenhaal has been shadowing the LAPD with fellow actor Michael Pena to better understand police work for their upcoming drama End of Watch, which focuses on two cops' partnership and long-term friendship.

"Jake is doing research for End of Watch and has been amazed by the professionalism of the LAPD," his rep told ET.
