LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - New York Rangers forward Sean Avery is out on bail after being arrested at his Hollywood home Friday on charges of battery of a police officer.
Officers were called to Avery's home due to noise complaints. A Hollywood police department rep explained, "He didn't want to turn down the music at his home." Avery was arrested at 1 a.m. and taken in to custody.
This is not the first time Avery has caused controversy, on or off the ice. Six years ago, former player Georges Laraque accused Avery of making racist comments. In 2008 - the same year the Ontario-native took an unpaid summer internship with Vogue magazine - he was suspended six games for making lewd comments about his ex-girlfriends who had started to date other NHL players.
He also has a penalty nicknamed after him. The "Avery rule" came from an April 2008 incident when he waved his hands and hockey stick in front of New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur.
Avery's bail had reportedly been set for $20,000.
