Academy Issues New Rules For Oscar Campaigning
Posted on Thu Sep 22, 2011 04:36 PM PDT

oscars200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced new Oscar campaign regulations.

Negative campaigning on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter is now banned, with a first-time violation resulting in a yearlong suspension of Academy membership and any subsequent violations resulting in expulsion.

Though the Academy has relaxed restrictions on cinematic receptions prior to Oscar nominations, all post-nomination receptions are now forbidden.

“To the extent that the public dialog about the Oscars is who threw a good party or ran a successful campaign versus the quality of the work, that's off-point for us. We want people to be taking about the work," Academy COO Ric Robertson told The Hollywood Reporter.

Oscar nominees will be announced Jan. 24, and the 84th Annual Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Feb. 26 at Los Angeles’s Kodak Theatre.
