LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Musical powerhouses Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks are set to co-star in Sony Pictures’ remake of Sparkle, Variety reports.
The flick, first released in 1976, follows the rags-to-riches story of three sisters who rise to fame as a girl group. Sparks has signed on to the role of Sparkle, the youngest sister of the group, and Houston will likely play Effie, the girls’ mother.
This will mark Sparks’s feature film debut and Houston’s first major film role since The Preacher's Wife (1996) 15 years ago.
Sparkle will be directed by Salim Akil and distributed by TriStar Pictures. Production is scheduled to begin next month.
