avatar2delay200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Avatar 2 is two years behind schedule, according to the film’s producer Jon Landau.

James Cameron first set out to release Avatar 2 in December 2014 and Avatar 3 in December 2015, but Landau revealed during a screening of the 3D re-release of Titanic that the films are now expected to see December 2016 and December 2017 releases, respectively.

Though Landau offered no explanation, attempts to enhance 3D technologies are thought to have caused the delay. Cameron has previously indicated that he plans to shoot Avatar 2 and 3 at 60 frames per second – considerably above the industry standard of 24 frames per second.

The original Avatar is the highest-grossing film of all time, raking in nearly $2.8 billion worldwide.
