Boy George Sentenced to 15 Months In Prison

Boy George BoyGeorge200.jpgLONDON (X17online) - George O'Dowd, who shot to fame in the 1980s as the singer Boy George, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after being found guilty of falsely imprisoning a male escort he met on the internet.

The severity of the sentenced surprised many.

"This offence is so serious that only an immediate sentence of imprisonment can be justified for it," judge David Radford said.

"Taking into account the aggravating and such mitigating factors as there are, the sentence of the court is one of 15 months imprisonment."

The singer was stoic as the sentenced was read.

O'Dowd claimed he asked the escort to return to his home because he suspected the man of stealing pictures from his computer.

The man claimed the singer handcuffed him to a wall and beat him. O'Dowd did not testify during the trial.

The singer's attorney did not say if he planned to file an appeal.
