Janet Jackson Signs Deal For Reality Show On MTV

Janet Jackson jjackson040108.jpg LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Janet Jackson is getting her own reality television show on MTV, according to Variety.

The untitled project will feature Jackson mentoring a group of aspiring young singers and dancers. The show will be shot in the next few months as Jackson prepares for her world tour, and the casting process has already begun.

Executive producer Dave Broome said, "It's really about finding who's the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher. And we'll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn't typically find it from. We'll go to YMCAs, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show."

The series will also take place in various street locales, rather than on a studio soundstage. Producers are still working out the details out the prize for the elimination style show, but it is being reported that it could relate to Jackson's tour, which launches on September 10.

FCC Drops "Wardrobe Malfunction" Fine From 2004 Superbowl

Janet Jackson JJACKSON092906_14_X17.jpg LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - A federal appeals court threw out the $550,000 indecency fine against CBS Corporation for Janet Jackson accidentally exposing her breast during the the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show.

The three judge panel of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the FCC "acted arbitrarily and capriciously" in issuing the fine for the brief image of nudity. The court issued the following statement:

"The Commission's determination that CBS' broadcast of a nine-sixteenths of one second glimpse of a bare female breast was actionably indecent evidenced the agency's departure from its prior policy. Its orders constituted the announcement of a policy change — that fleeting images would no longer be excluded from the scope of actionable indecency."

The FCC argued that Jackson's nudity (though it lasted a fraction of a second), was graphic and explicit and CBS should have been forewarned. In defense of the FCC fine, CBS said that "fleeting, isolated or unintended" images should not automatically be considered indecent.

LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - After canceling six stops on her Rock Witchu Tour because of illness, MTV News is reporting Janet Jackson will be back on stage this Saturday in Connecticut.

"Janet, who has been under her doctor's care and recuperating over the last week, is excited about getting back on the road and again being able to share with her fans what she feels is one of her best stage shows ever," Janet's concert promoter, Live Nation, said in a statement.

The 42 year old R&B superstar was forced to cancel shows in Montreal, Boston, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Philadelphia and Greensboro, North Carolina after she was hospitalized in Canada.

Last week, Jackson - who is in the midst of her first North American tour in seven years - appeared ready to hit the road again for the show in Greensboro, but her publicist put out a statement saying the singer was not quite healed.

"Janet was hoping to resume her tour in an effort not to disappoint her fans," read the statement the night before the North Carolina show. "However, after arriving in Greensboro, it became evident that she is not fully recovered. A local doctor advised that she not perform tomorrow."

Jackson's "Wardrobe Malfunction" Could Reach Supreme Court

Janet Jackson JanetFCC200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - The US Government is asking the Supreme Court to reinstate a half million dollar fine for Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" during the half-time show of 2004's Super Bowl broadcast.

During the performance with Justin Timberlake, Jackson's breast was briefly exposed triggering a flood of complaints to the Federal Communications Commission.

The FCC initially imposed a $550,000 fine against CBS. After a 3 year legal battle, a federal court reversed the decision, saying CBS could not be held liable for Jackson's actions.

Now the government is asking the court to consider "whether the court of appeals erred in holding that the federal communications commission acted arbitrarily and capriciously (...) in determining that the most widely viewed broadcast public nudity in television history fell within the federal prohibitions on broadcast indecency."

Janet Offers To Raise Jackson Kids

Janetkids200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Janet Jackson says she's willing to take over the care of her brother Michael's children.

Janet has reportedly bonded with the kids since Jackson.

"She has said, 'I'll step forward and I will raise them if this is what they want,'" said Inside Edition's Jim Moret who broke the story.

Jackson's children Prince Michael, Paris and "Blanket" are currently living under the care of Michael's mother Katherine at the family compound in Encino.

A custodial hearing scheduled for today was postponed late last week. It's not clear if Janet's desire to raise the children is the reason for the delay.

Janet Jackson Blames Dr. Conrad Murray For Michael's Death

janetdeath200.jpg LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - In a new interview airing this Wednesday, Janet Jackson blames Dr. Conrad Murray for her brother's death this past June, and she added that she feels he should no longer be allowed to practice medicine.

In a sit down with Robin Roberts on the ABC News special, In the Spotlight, Janet says, "He was the one that was administering. I think he is responsible."

Janet recounted the events on the day Michael died, telling Robin, "I was at my house in New York. You know, another day. Another morning. And I get a call ... [my assistant] said, 'Your brother's been taken to the hospital. It's on CNN right now.' I called everyone's. There's a line busy or - someone wasn't picking up. I spoke to mother. I spoke to Tito. I spoke to my nephew Austin. I spoke to my sister La Toya. I told them to call me when they got to the hospital. And I remember thinking nobody's calling me back, so I tried calling again, and that's how I found out that he was no longer ... I couldn't believe it."

Jackson said that she and the entire family were in a state of disbelief. "It just didn't ring true to me. It felt like a dream," she said. "It's still so difficult for me to believe. It's, you know, you have to accept what is. But it's hard. You have to move on with your life. You have to accept what is and I understand that."
