LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are teaming up again for the sequel to their 1994 hit comedy, Dumb and Dumber.

Writers Sean Anders and John Morris (Hot Tub Time Machine, Mr. Popper's Penguins) have been attached to pen the script since October while the Farrelly brothers are set to direct.

"We're getting set to shoot Dumb and Dumber 2 in September," Peter Farrelly told ComingSoon.net during a Three Stooges press junket over the weekend. "It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back."

During the junket, the director also shared his thoughts on the difference between this sequel and the 2003 prequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.

"We did not do Dumb and Dumberer," Farrelly added. "That was a studio thing. We've always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, 'We've got to do this thing again.' He had just watched Dumb and Dumber and he said, 'This is the perfect sequel. Let's do it.'"

LOS ANGELES, California (x17online) - Jim Carrey has officially dropped out of the Dumb and Dumber sequel months after he expressed his excitement for filming the sequel.

According to ETOnline, Carrey felt that the executives at New Line and Warner Bros. "showed a lack of enthusiasm" for the reunion which would have been titled Dumb and Dumber To.

With Carrey's exit, the possibility of a sequel appears to be unlikely. As for Carrey's next act, he'll star as a street magician alongside Steve Carell in the comedy Burt Wonderstone.
