Lynne Spears Involved In Fatal Car Accident Over Three Decades Ago

Lynne Spears LSPEARS071507_02.jpg LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - According to the National Enquirer, Britney Spears' mother Lynne was involved in a car accident in 1975 in which she ran over and killed a 12-year-old boy on a bicycle. The newspaper reports that Spears, then 20, was driving her brother to the hospital when the accident occurred in her hometown of Kentwood, Lousiana.

A source close to the Spears family told the newspaper, "To this day, Lynne hasn't gotten over what she did. She gets that terrified look in her eye when she is thinking about it. She has told only a few people about the accident and always says, 'Please don't think I'm a bad person.'"

A representative for Spears told the National Enquirer, "It bothers Lynne still to this day. She really doesn't like to talk about it. She just wanted to forget that it ever happened - but she can't."

Britney's Mom Set's Record Straight

Lynne Spears Lynne200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) -Lynne Spears says her new memoir "Through the Storm" is her chance to "set it straight" about her famous daughter Britney.

In an interview on Wednesday's "Today" show, Spears reveals her family's life has been a "whirlwind" since Britney became one of pop music's biggest stars.

Spears says her book is not a parenting book, but rather a chance to tell her side of the story.

"I wanted people to see my family as we are," she told Meredith Vieira.

Spears admitted she made mistakes during Britney's rise to fame, saying "It's kind of like Britney was sent out into the world a little bit prematurely," and admitted she wasn't with Britne as much as she would have liked. "Did I want to be there? Of course!" she said. "Was it feasible? It wasn't."

Lynne compared it to parents sending their kids to college. "You don't really know what they're doing in college ... just as Britney set out two years earlier to be a star."

Spears also talked about how fame had taken its toll on her daughter.

"There was that honeymoon period where it looked like she could do no wrong," Lynne said. "Then there's that ugly side of fame ... and we weren't ready for that."

But despite the difficulties of the past few years, Lynne says her daughter is now on the right track.

"She's strong. She's resilient. She's had some big bumps in the road, but Britney's fine. Britney is headed to the top once again, and I have no fears about Britney."
