Scarlett Johansson Helps in Fight Against AIDS

Scarlett Johansson SJOHANSSEN200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Actress Scarlett Johansson is traveling to Africa to help in the fight against AIDS. Johansson is spending four days visiting AIDS clinics with representatives of (RED), a charity launched by U2 frontman Bono in 2006 to combat the deadly disease through the power of consumerism.

"It was important for me to come here and see the issues we're up against first hand," Johansson said.

"I came here with an open mind, wanted to listen, understand and learn; I leave with the overwhelming understanding that the small action of making a RED choice in your purchases...has an enormous impact on the lives of people in countries like Rwanda."

Scarlett Reveals The Skinny About Her Weight Loss

JohanssonWeight200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Scarlett Johansson is squashing the rumors that she's undertaken a crash diet to get into shape for her upcoming role as Black Widow in Iron Man 2.

Dismissing rumors that she's using Gwyneth Paltrow's personal trainer or on some "miracle diet," Johansson says she's been working out at least 30 minutes a day and eating a balanced diet of fruit, vegetables and lean proteins.

The formerly curvy Lost In Translation star writes on The Huffington Post that, “the idea that the media would maintain that I have lost an impossible amount of weight by some sort of 'crash diet' or miracle workout is ludicrous.”

Johansson also denies that she's lost 14 pounds. "If I were to lose 14 pounds, I'd have to part with both arms. And a foot," the actress writes.

The actress says she's speaking out because she doesn't want "some 15-year-old girl in Kansas City (to) read one of these 'articles' and decide she wasn't going to eat for a couple of weeks so she too could 'crash diet' and look like Scarlett Johansson."

Scarlett Johansson Defends Her Tony Win

scarlettwave200.jpgMANHATTAN, New York (X17online) - Scarlett Johansson is firing back at critics who argue the actress is undeserving of a Tony Award for her role in Broadway's A View From the Bridge.

The 25-year-old actress told Broadway World, "I pounded the pavement for years and I know what it's like to struggle as an actor. A lot of it is luck and, certainly, a lot of it is opportunity -- and the lack of that. So, I totally understand the frustration there."

After Johannson won, Broadway star Hunter Foster created a Facebook campaign called Give The Tonys Back To Broadway. He believes Johannson's Hollywood status helped her to win the award.

In response to the Facebook campaign, Johannson released the following:

"The actors we've seen this season that we recognize from film -- Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Liev Schreiber and Catherine Zeta-Jones, etc. -- have not only made a huge impact on ticket sales but have given tour de force performances and all started their careers as stage actors, dedicating themselves to making an impression in the theater. This goes to show that actors are actors, whatever the outlet, and with perseverance and drive, can cross the boundaries of the medium.

A lot of my friends who are struggling actors are going through the same thing. But, I can't apologize for it. I have worked my ass off to get to where I am so I understand that struggle," Johansson explained. "For me, it's more about hiring the right person for the job. If somebody is cast because they are a name but they're not right for the job, well, it's very frustrating."
