The studio has locked up deals for the next three novels in Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster vampire series and has hired "Twilight" screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to write scripts based on "New Moon" and "Eclipse," the second and third books, respectively.

No writer has been set for the fourth, "Breaking Dawn."

"Twilight" Tickets Already Selling-Out

Twilight TwilightSales200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Tickets for the first midnight showings of "Twilight" are quickly selling out, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Online ticket sellers Fandango and MovieTickets report the film has sold out hundreds of performances, four days before its Friday opening in about 3,400 locations.

Fandango has sold out almost 700 shows - including 500 or so midnight Thursday screenings - and MovieTickets counted more than 400 sellouts of various show times.

Hollywood experts speculate a $40 million-plus opening is almost assured and $50 million or more is possible, if weekend moviegoing proves robust. Some are predicting an opening weekend with sales in excess of $60 million.

Midnight "Twilight" Showings Sell Out

Twilight TwilightOpen200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - More than a thousand midnight screenings of the teen vampire movie "Twilight" sold out Friday morning.

In Los Angeles, pairs of tickets were hawked for upwards of $50 on Craigslist. On Facebook, members were planning their opening-night wardrobe.

Many theater owners said they were adding additional showtimes - some as late as 2:45 a.m. Friday - to meet the demand for tickets.

"Twilight" currently represents more than 94 percent of all weekly ticket sales on the Fandango's Internet ticket broker's Web site.

"It's our fastest ticket-seller since 'The Dark Knight,'" Rick Butler, chief operating officer of Fandango, said in a statement.

"The impressive advance ticket sales are clearly the result of the growing Internet buzz from the novel's online fans. There are so many moviegoers staying up late to see the movie at midnight that 'Twilight' might single-handedly boost coffee sales on Friday morning."

Hollywood experts expect the film to bring in upwards of $60 million dollars in its first weekend of release.

'Twilight' Director Dropped From Sequel

Twilight TwilightSales200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Even though "Twilight" has earned rave reviews from fans, not mention nearly $140 million at the box office, director Catherine Hardwicke will not be directing the sequel "New Moon."

According to DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com, the reason for change is Hardwicke's schedule.

"I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct 'New Moon,'" said Hardwicke. "Directing 'Twilight' has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel - it is a great story."

"Catherine did an incredible job in helping us to launch the 'Twilight' franchise, and we thank her for all of her efforts and we very much hope to work with her on future Summit projects," said Summit production president Erik Feig.

Even though both sides publicly say the split is due to a "scheduling conflict," sources from Summit Entertainment reportedly said that Hardwicke, "was "difficult" and "irrational" during the making of "Twilight."

So far, no new director has been announced.

'Twilight' Sequel Set For Quick Start

Twilight PattinsonSequel200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Summit Entertainment says it plans to release the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon" on November 20th of next year, according to Entertainment Weekly.

With that date in mind, pre-production on the film is set to begin in Vancouver by December 15th. A director to replace Catherine Hardwicke has not yet been hired by the studio.

Another concern, according to several unnamed movie executives, is that the script is not yet finished. Also there are reports that Summit wants to replace actor Taylor Lautner as Jacob, who has a larger role in "New Moon."

EW reports that director Chris Weitz has been offered the "New Moon" job, but that a deal to secure the "The Golden Compass" director has not yet been finalized.

Taylor Lautner To Return for "Twilight" Sequel

Twilight Jacob200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Taylor Lautner will reprise the role of Jacob in the upcoming "Twilight" sequel, "New Moon."

The announcement was made by director Chris Weitz on "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's official website.

"I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer," wrote Weitz.

Producers had initially voiced concerns about the casting of Lautner for the sequel because the character is older and physically changed in the sequel.

"The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series," Weitz wrote.

Meyer voiced her support for Lautner as well. The author said she was "very much a part of this decision" and says she's "truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have."

When officials told the crowd at 12:30 p.m. that no more people would be allowed in the building, the hundreds left outside were visibly disappointed.

Filmmakers were auditioning "first nations/aboriginal actors and actresses between the ages of 15 and 25" for the upcoming sequel.

'Twilight' Stars Disagree Over Which Book Is Best

ComicCon200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart thrilled fans of the vampire series at Comic-Con's "New Moon" news conference in San Diego.

Answering questions from the press and from fans, the stars revealed they each have their own favorite book in the "Twilight" series.

Lautner’s surprising choice is "Eclipse," the movie they will shoot next.

“It has lots of action in it. In 'Eclipse,' it's the three of them physically together," Taylor says. "They have to team up to try and be friends to protect her. I'm excited to get going."

“New Moon” is preferred by Rob and Kristen.

"I liked 'New Moon' in terms of how far I could push myself in the series," says Kristen.

"I feel after 'New Moon' it's kind of smooth sailing for her. But in 'New Moon,' she's lost. I had to find her again."

"I like the juxtaposition of so many people being there," says Robert.

"It's such a hyped character. So many see him as a hero. In 'New Moon,' he's so humbled. He's looking at Bella and is thinking he loves her too much. ... He deliberately starts breaking it. And the final fight sequence at the end, Bella saves Edward, which she does in every book."

Meantime, "Twilight" fans are expected to sink their teeth into a new line inspired by the movie that will be sold at Nordstrom.

One t-shirt features a tribute to the Washington town where the saga takes place: Forks, Washington.

Another asks wearers to pick sides in the love triangle, either "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob."

The clothes will be available online starting October 1st.

Twilight Controversy: Why Was Actress Replaced?

rachelle_lefevre200.jpgreported earlier, Summit Entertainment announced that Rachelle Lefevre's Victoria character would be played by Bryce Dallas Howard in the third installment Eclipse due to a scheduling conflict.

But Lefevre is firing back at the studio saying their version of events is just not true.

"I was stunned. I was fully committed to the Twilight saga, and to the portrayal of Victoria. I turned down several other film opportunities and, in accordance with my contractual rights, accepted only roles that would involve very short shooting schedules," Lefevre wrote.

"My commitment to Barney's Version is only 10 days. Summit picked up my option for Eclipse. Although the production schedule for Eclipse is over three months long, Summit said they had a conflict during those ten days and would not accommodate me. Given the length of filming for Eclipse, never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10-day overlap.

"I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part. I am greatly saddened that I will not get to complete my portrayal of Victoria for the Twilight audience. This is a story, a theatrical journey and a character that I truly love and about which I am very passionate.

I will be forever grateful to the fan support and loyalty I've received since being cast for this role, and I am hurt deeply by Summit's surprising decision to move on without me. I wish the cast and crew of Eclipse only the very best."

Summit Entertainment has a different version of events, and says they are disappointed Lefevre chose another film over Eclipse.

"We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre's recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the Studio. Her decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts," the studio said in a statement.

"It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre's commitment to Barney's Version, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June. Summit had acted in good faith that she would be available to fulfill her obligations both in terms of rehearsals and shooting availability for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production.

"Ms. Lefevre took a role in the other film that places her in Europe during the required rehearsal time, and at least ten days of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's principal photography. This period is essential for both rehearsal time with the cast, and for filming at key locations that are only available during the initial part of production.

"The fact remains that Ms. Lefevre's commitment to the other project—which she chose to withhold from Summit until the last possible moment—makes her unfortunately unavailable to perform the role of Victoria."

There may be another element in this: money. E! News is reporting Summit was looking to save money by avoiding Lefevre's contractually required pay raise. Seeing an out, they took it. However, this doesn't seem to make sense because Bryce Dallas Howard is a bigger "name" in Hollywood, able to command a far larger salary that Lefevre.

NYPD Says Robert Pattinson Needs More Security

PattisProtection200.jpgNEW YORK, New York (X17online) - The security team charged with protecting Robert Pattinson from throngs of screaming fans is being criticized by the New York City Police Department for not doing enough to protect him.

The Twilight star has been in the big apple shooting "Remember Me" and has been swarmed by fans at every location where filming has taken place.

"Enough is enough. His security people aren't up to the task of keeping him safe, and they have no idea how to deal with the crowds this guy attracts," one report quotes a police source.

Pattinson, for his part, has tried to quiet the fans as well.

"People ambush me and try to find out what hotel I'm staying at, as well as wanting to touch my hair. Everyone just screams and screams," Pattinson said.

Leaked 'New Moon' Trailer Hurts Hudgen's 'Bandslam' Weekend Opening

bandslam200.jpg
LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - It should have been a huge weekend for Vanessa Hudgen's new movie 'Bandslam.' But an early leak of the "New Moon" trailer may have hurt the films chances.

The trailer for the new chapter in "Twilight" saga was expected to lure in the crowds and was the central part of Summit's marketing campaign.

However, the posting of bootleg copies of the trailer on various websites appears to have derailed that plan.

"Bandslam," which received generally positive reviews, brought in just $2.3 million at the box office and did not make the top ten.

Robert Pattinson Insists He Doesn't Have A Girlfriend

rpatdating200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Despite photos suggesting a romance with Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson insists he's still a single guy.

In a recent interview with the UK's Daily Mirror, Pattinson says the stories about his romantic life are far from true.

"I don’t have a girlfriend. I don’t know why," Pattinson insists.

And apparently being one of the biggest movie stars on the planet doesn't help.

“You always think you’re going to get more girls after you’ve made a movie and it never happens. You sit there and you’re like ‘I’m a big movie star and I want to go out with some models’ but I don’t know why that doesn’t happen."

The 23-year-old also complains about life in Hollywood.

“It’s especially different in LA. Most of the women there are actresses and by default that makes them a little bit nuts – not that that’s a bad thing. But I don’t really have a type. Whenever I get asked who my favorite celebrity crush is, I have no idea."

TW_TB_200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) -True Blood star Stephen Moyer has been cast along side Twilight heartthrob Cam Gigandet in the upcoming film Priest.

Unfortch, it looks like the guys will be playing mere mortals in Priest. Moyer's character is described as "the mortal brother" of the warrior priest, while Gigandet will be the love interest for the priest's niece.

With these two vampire veterans sharing the screen we're guessing a ton of you Twilight/True Blood will be flooding the theaters when Priest hits the screen.

Twilight Joins "Challenged Books" List

twilight200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - The American Library Association has added the Twilight series to the annual report of "challenged books." The vampire novels created by Stephanie Meyer rank #5 on this list that already includes J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books.

The "challenged books" list is compilation of books that are the most complained about by parents and educators. The ALA defines a challenge as a “formal, written complaint filed with a library or school requesting that materials be removed because of content or appropriateness.” Twilight books have been criticized for their sexual content, as well as teen romance and violence.

Barbara Jones, director of the association's Office for Intellectual Freedom, had this to say: “Vampire novels have been a target for years and the ‘Twilight’ books are so immensely popular that a lot of the concerns people have had about vampires are focused on her books."

Other books that have been included on the list: The Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Color Purple and The Chocolate War.

Twilight Director Warns That Salary Negotiations "Could Get Ugly"

twilight200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Catherine Hardwicke, director of the original Twilight film, says that if Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene press for too much money, they could get replaced.

Hardwicke tells UsWeekly: "Ashley and Kellan have agents, managers, lawyers... you get all of these outside influences telling you you should hold out for this much because you're such an important part of the franchise."

A source also tells the mag: "Summit leaked the story to turn fans against the cast. They are leading the negotiations to the press and are trying to make them look greedy... Summit has made millions and the cast is just looking to get what they deserve."

Hardwicke adds, "Possibly, Rachelle and Ashley and Kellan might not even be all that involved. They have all the other people telling them things and a lot of stuff can get mishandled, like what happened with Rachelle. There's so many possible misunderstandings. It breaks my heart. It could turn ugly. Do [these actors] deserve more money? Probably they do, on one level. But if everybody make so much money then... it's complicated. What a mess!"

Kristin Stewart, Rob Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are reportedly close to finalizing their deals ... said to be worth tens of millions each.

Vampires Prove To Be Billion Dollar Business

TrueBlood200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Vampire movies, TV shows and merchandise are bringing in billions of dollars. Just this past weekend, the Twilight parody Vampires Suck grossed $20 million at the box office.

The three Twilight films have grossed over $1.7 billion at the global boxoffice. Vampire merchandising has raked in $600 million, TV and DVDs $1.2 billion and publishing $1.6 billion, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As for why vampires are so popular with audiences, CW's The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec says:

"By starting with one simple mythological creature that's been part of our literary universe for centuries, you can create a story that has it all: romance, horror, action, special effects, sex, epic love, wish fulfillment, romantic leading men, delicious bad-boy villains, female badasses, damsels in distress, death, monsters and, ultimately, the perfectly flawed hero who would give it all up if it meant they wouldn't have to spend eternity alone. It doesn't get more universal than that."

HBO's True Blood season 3 finale will air September 12th. The series, with 5 million regular viewers, has been HBO's most successful property since The Sopranos. According to THR, domestic and foreign licensing arrangements could generate $100 million-$125 million from Vampire Diaries and $50 million-$75 million from True Blood.

Summit Entertainment Hoping To Close A $750 Million Refinancing Deal

summet200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Summit Entertainment is working on a new deal involving a $550 million loan and a $200 million line of credit hoping the generated cash will help to pay off a high-interest debt load.

The deal will help the movie studio to get "a solid financial footing" and pay investors a $200 million dividend, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

J.P. Morgan and UBS AG are arranging the multi-million dollar deal. A majority of the money will come from the profits generated by the Twilight franchise ... including merchandising and movie distribution.

Peak Group Holdings, as well as Summit co-chairman Rob Friedman and president Erik Feig, will be on the receiving end of the dividends.

Summit was created back in 1991, however the re-vamped company with Friedman and Wachsberger was founded in 2007.

Twilight Author Stephenie Meyer Moves Into Movie Producing

StephenieMeyer200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) -- Twilight saga author Stephenie Meyer is expanding her artistic talents to include producing, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Meyer will produce Austenland, an indie romantic comedy that will star Keri Russell and will be directed by Jerusha Hess, who co-wrote Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. This is Hess' directing debut.

Meyer has acted as a producer on the Twilight adaptations, but has never produced for any other movies. Like Twilight, Austenland is based on a book; Shannon Hale wrote the novel and Hale and Hess co-wrote the script.
